Q. What kind of religions are prominent in todays society?
Q. Out of those religions which ones do we as college age face the most?
Q. Do these relions have some sort of gospel? Is it similar to the gospel of the Bible?
Galatians 1:1-5 " Paul, an apostle–sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead– and all the brothers with me,To the churches in Galatia: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Paul is writing a letter to the churches in Galatia. I like how Paul starts off in verse 1 by stating that he is not sent from men but by Jesus Christ himself. He then goes right into a prayer for the church of Galatia. I love this example from Paul because it's always a great idea to start everything we off with prayer. *Paul starts off all of his books in the Bible with "grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Galatians 1:6-9 "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel– which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!"
Paul is astonished by how quickly they are deserting the one who called them by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel. Have you ever known anybody that was a very strong christian and ended up turning away from God? They ended up backsliding and getting caught up in the world. Doesn't it almost astonish you if you see them later on living in the world as if they were never saved before. I think this is kind of the same astonishment that Paul was feeling. You experienced this amazing grave of Christ and now your turning to a different gospel.
In verse 7 we see it is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. I can think of a few religions where they still use the gospel but take verses out of context or they add or take away parts of it. These parts they either don't like or it doesn't fit in their religion.
Verse 8-9 is very important because it really stresses how important the gospel of Jesus Christ is. The Bible is God's word and the gospel is the evidence of Jesus Christ's life, death, and ressurection. If we alter the gospel at all then were trying to change history. Then were trying to change what actually happened. Were trying to change God's word.
